Starting his career in 1985 with MediQual creating new client applications for data services. Focusing upon early utilization management principles he was then hired by Blue Cross Massachusetts to develop and manage a team of Nurses who were to use their clinical skills in conjunction with databases to begin utilization and cost management report process by tracking referrals.
Building upon these decision support tools mark joined CRG an independent data/software company. He helped PHOs, IDNs and other MCOs in building physician profiling, risk assessment and compliance applications. Joining HCIA/Sachs in 1999 mark concentrated in the payer markets with applications for large and small employers, health plans and insurance companies who were just becoming aware of the opportunity to leverage data tools to dissect the true root cause of cost and utilization increases.
Solucient, a national database company well known for its hospital rating and comparative database tools relied on Mark to expand the companies clients to include employers, TPAs insurance companies PPOs and HMOs through development of the Peer a Med product.
This combination of multiple exposures to new and different situations combined with Marks Mathematics and engineering education has helped our clients think through the essential points of how to approach what data using what tools.
Whether it is a general trend analysis , a network evaluation of a current or potential provider network or a specialized application for a Medicare Advantage prescription drug plan ( PDP) Mark instinctively understands what provider and employers sponsored health plans need to support the critical decision-making process.
Mark holds a Masters in healthcare administration, certifications in quality management and statistical process control from Worchester Polytechnic and regularly presents on data related topics at various association meetings nationwide.
