William J. DeMarco, M.A., C.M.C., President/CEO

Mr. William J. DeMarco is President and CEO of DeMarco & Associates, Inc. Mr. DeMarco created the firm based upon 30 years’ experience in health plan development and management and earned his credentials working with several health plans in the competitive St. Paul/Minneapolis marketplace.

In 1975 he was part of the eight member management team that led the development of the first Medicare and Medicaid health plans in Minnesota as well as commercial programs for large and small employers working for SHARE Health Plan, a not for profit health plan sponsored by a primary care physician group.

In 1980 Bill was hired as the lead marketing and development executive in the formation of Clinicare, a locally owned health plan founded by Rockford Clinic Ltd, the largest multi-specialty medical group in Northern Illinois. The plan grew to over 100,000 members employing 350 people and earning a triple A rating as an outstanding insurance company in the state.

In 1984 DeMarco & Associates was formed to assist physicians in optimizing their relationship with insurance companies and employers. In his consulting work he has dealt with large and small medical groups and hospitals, and assisted many employers and insurers in developing better relationships with physicians and advanced their understanding in being a better purchaser of care.

Bill holds undergraduate degrees in Behavioral Science and Management Planning and received his Masters in Organizational Development from DePaul University.

He is a past visiting instructor at Loyola School of Law and DePaul University MBA program. In addition Bill holds affiliations with several Universities as guest speaker and contributor to various forums and workshops for medical societies and physician IPAs.

His publications include Physician Driven Health Plans (McGraw Hill 2007) endorsed by HFMA, several books in the IPA management series from McGraw Hill including Direct Contracting, IPA Strategy and Medicare Contracting. His most recent book Performance Based Medicine, was published in January 2011 and discusses the importance of performance metrics and building high performance networks owned by physicians.
